Holy smokes, I finally made it out of the portal! Allison & I got married, moved from Houston to Chicago, & here we are over a thousand miles away in a completely new place, exploring, regulating our nervous systems, meeting new people, putting down roots, & finding our new normal. I miss my friends in Houston so much, but our quality of life has improved in ways we couldn't even have imagined before. For those who don't know, the sudden, mass-adoption of AI completely nuked my design career. Not only did this bullshit tech instantly devalue design, it changed the entire internet for the worse. I have no idea what to do with my career now. I'm trying to get back in touch with my creativity through my own website & foster a more positive association with websites, design, & the internet again. I'm taking my navigation menu down to update everything, so I'm just leaving this little journal-ish feed here for updates until I'm done. See y'all soon!
We had the best vacation to Chicago!!!!! Allison counter-proposed & I got my dream ancient ring. We're in love with Chicago & Andersonville!!!!! Texas, you have a limited amount of time to hang out with us before we move to Chicago.
Shout out to my friends Conner & Ned for talking about my website on their show, Effin Rager last week! We're talking about doing a workshop or something to teach people how to make their own websites.
Another update!!! I added a credits section to the homepage so I could link all the resources I've used to make this website. I also linked a bunch of stuff like layout makers & pages to help with CSS & html.
Designing to distract myself from the horrors!!!!!!!!! I added a dark mode/light mode toggle, a minesweeper clone I found on github, a guestbook, a playlist of my most recently listened to tracks on TIDAL, & some hidden easter eggs. I'm having so much fun with this & I wonder if I can convince any of my friends to make an old web personal website like this again >:)
Allison made a special nest for me to get comfy and do computer on today. I have spent hours coding and adding little tweaks to the website. You can now toggle between dark mode and light mode! I also added this little updates section for microblogging. I couldn't remember how to use light javascript, so I looked up my websites from when I was a teenager and inspected the code on them. It was actually so nostalgic and fun! I can't believe 15 year old me taught 40 year old me something genuinely kinda hard. Forgetting isn't so bad if you can learn it all over again.
I designed this website because I am hopelessly nostalgic for the way things used to be online. I miss the wide open web. I miss the parts of the internet that were used to foster community. I miss the way we could be vulnerable online before social media. I miss when tech represented possibility and connection instead of surveillance and destruction. I miss going to my friends' websites! I made this website to express myself, connect with other people, and feel good online the way I did as a teenager. Welcome to my page!
